Logiblocs
was the brainchild of Tony de Rivaz, an engineer and chartered accountant
who gave up his secure job to fulfil an idea he had back in 1989.
He first designed a prototype see-through electronic brain in three
dimensions. This proved to be too complicated and he set about developing
a simpler product.
The result was the forerunner of Logiblocs - but in spite of considerable
interest from several major toy companies, no-one was prepared to
take on the huge task of getting the toy onto the market.
The product was launched in Harrods, London in November 1996 in the
Toy Kingdom. Harrods were very supportive and helped guide the final
stages of development and influenced colours and the nature of the
packaging.
The launch was a sell-out which was a good sign. But it takes a long
time to build a brand and generate the all important volume of sales
to get the costs down and create a viable business - but thankfully,
that's all in the past now.
Already over 3 million Logiblocs have been sold. They can be found
in over 3,000 Primary Schools in the UK and many stores and mail order
catalogues sell the product in the UK, Europe and the US. Exciting
new Logiblocs and kits are produced each year, but the Logibloc story
is only just beginning! |
